No heat, huge rats, broken locks, lead poisoning, windows falling out, unlawful board-ups and move-outs: these are the immoral and dehumanizing conditions that families are experiencing at a Chicago building owned and operated by the St. Michael Missionary Baptist Church. That’s why we are calling on all Chicagoans to take action for these residents!
THESE CONDITIONS ARE UNACCEPTABLE!
TAKE ACTION NOW
1.) Call the church and ask Pastor Clifford Spears to fix these deplorable conditions: 773-826-8554
2.) Sign the CHHIP petition to support the Healthy Homes Campaign
3.) Call your Alderman and tell them to support the Chicago Healthy Homes Inspection Program (CHHIP). Click here to find out what ward you are in and who your Alderman is, or call 312-744-6770
Under the (CHHIP) program all rental units would be inspected regularly. It would prevent situations like this from happening and put slumlords out of business! We believe that the City should initiate a proactive inspection program that could identify home-based health hazards along with general maintenance needs, and require property owners to make the necessary repairs. The current building inspection system puts the burden of requesting proper maintenance on tenants, allowing property owners to neglect buildings without regular code enforcement, which forces families to relocate or live with egregious conditions affecting their health. In today’s economy, moving is not always a viable option. Protect your family and the renters of our city by taking actions to make the change you want to see!
Sincerely,
Metropolitan Tenants Organization
