Leadership Development

We are tenants and rely on tenants to lead the organization. We do this by developing the leadership skills and capacity of tenants to participate in and lead social change campaigns. MTO regularly hosts leadership development workshops and seminars, organizes local and citywide planning meetings, and engages tenants in public policy forums with public and elected officials. Tenants are involved in all aspects of MTO from serving on the Board of Directors to volunteering on our Tenants Rights Hotline.

MTO provides a 6-part leadership development training seminar, free of charge to tenants. The program is repeated throughout the year, and includes the following subject matters:

  • Principles of Organizing
  • What is Leadership
  • Understanding Power and Change
  • Strategic Planning and Evaluation
  • One-on-ones
  • Media Strategy
