Chicago Housing Initiative (CHI) engages community leaders and residents through a unified voice that amplifies the power of low-income Chicago residents. By preserving and expanding multifamily subsidized housing, CHI promotes community stabilization strategies ensuring racial and economic justice.

  • Chicago stands to lose an additional $28 million in public housing dollars in 2012, after already losing $25.8 million in 2011.

  • Thousands of public housing units will be lost while 68,000 families and seniors sit on the CHA’s waiting list.

  • Community Development Block Grants cut 12.3% compared to 2010 levels, a loss of $11 million in needed funding for homeless services, youth programs, violence prevention, and health clinics.

  • $7.2 million in new cuts to HOME affordable housing construction and first-time home-buyer assistance programs
